Congratulations, New Bush Students and Families

Welcome to The Bush School! We are thrilled that you will be joining our bright, caring, and heart-centered Blazer family in the fall.

Bush students share many traits: They’re smart, inclusive, creative, and kind. In Lower School, students bring joyful curiosity to both the classroom and the playfield. Middle School students jump at the chance to explore new ideas and are driven by their passions whether it’s music, robotics, sports, or social justice. Upper School students turn that passion into purpose as they learn to be active agents for change in our community and the world.

While we wish we could welcome you to campus, our current health and safety protocols do not allow us to have visitors on campus. This spring, we will share all the information you need for your transition to The Bush School. Stay tuned for more information about spring orientation events for new families, course registration, back-to-school information, and more.

We can’t wait to welcome you home to The Bush School.

Welcome, new Upper School students! We enlisted the help of our Upper School community to prepare welcome packages for our new students.

Welcome Class of 2028! Your classmates are excited to welcome you to Bush and embark on the Middle School adventure with you.

Congratulations to the Bush Class of 2034! We enlisted the help of our friend the Bush Bear to share a peek into the day of a Bush Kindergarten student.

Save the date!

Introducing José Leonor and Matt Lai,
Bush's new Middle and upper School Directors

We are pleased to welcome José Leonor as our new Middle School Director and Matt Lai as our new Upper School Director. José and Matt will begin their tenures at The Bush School on July 1, 2021.

José joins the Bush community after many years of teaching and leading in Middle Schools throughout the country, most recently as the Founding Director of Middle School and Associate Head of School at Thaden School in Bentonville, AR. José earned a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Princeton University and an M.A. in Organizational Leadership in Education from Columbia University Teachers College. José is also a proud graduate of Horace Mann School in Bronx, NY and Prep for Prep Contingent XVIII.

In reflecting on his new role at Bush, José shared, “I am very excited to lead the Middle School in the coming years. It became increasingly clear to me during my candidacy that The Bush School is a place where students are encouraged to become their best authentic selves. It was evident that the educators I met love their work with adolescents and enjoy one another to boot. I am looking forward to partnering with faculty and families in support of students’ growth and learning.” José’s warmth, intellectual curiosity, and authentic leadership position him to build our Middle School community for the future.

Matt started his professional career in law and now describes himself as a “recovering lawyer” who found that his true calling was working with students and faculty. He has held a variety of teaching and administrative positions in his educational career, most recently as the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management at Avenues: The World School. Matt holds a B.A. in Science, Technology & Society with a Concentration in Public Policy and Management, Science & Engineering and an M.A. in Sociology with a Concentration in Organizational Behavior from Stanford University and a J.D. from Columbia School of Law.

Matt was drawn to The Bush School because of its mission and shares, “My family and I are so thrilled to be joining the Bush community! Every person—from students to parents to staff and faculty—whom I’ve met at Bush has been so warm and welcoming. The commitment to learning, equity, and community shines brightly, and everyone’s love for the school has been palpable. I cannot wait to get to know you all this fall.”

Welcome, José and Matt!
